If you want this country to change we have to go back to our knees, “show-business evangelism” will not change this country, because the strongman in charge of this country is yet to be brought down. The only thing that can bring him down is aggressive prayers by Christians. Dr. D.K. Olukoya

Two very critical issues are treated in this edition of Sunday Tonic. Prayers are required for the realization of human objectives and indeed, the sustainable relationship with the Creator. Prayers are petitions directed at the Supreme Eternal Being, credited with creating heaven and earth. Jesus Christ Jesus began His ministry praying. And He ended it praying, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commend My spirit'” (Lk. 23:46) Believers are charged to Pray without ceasing; and In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. (1 Thessalonians 5:17-18) On this, TERRIFIC HEADLINES beings you one of the sermons of Dr. D.K. Olukoya of the Mountain of Fire & Miracles Ministries.

Dr. D. K. Olukoya
The topic you are about to study is titled “Problems at the altar of prayers.”
Our first text for this message is Luke 18 verses 1 to 8. In this passage, you will see the need to continuously trouble God with prayers as God would not hesitate to answer those who cry unto Him day and night.
I Thessalonians 5 verse 17 says “Pray without ceasing.”
This topic has two important things to it., which are PRAYER and ALTAR. However, there is problem at this altar of prayer.

It has been well said that prayer is the key to open every door. When you want to start the day in morning, prayer is the key to open with, and to sleep at night, prayer is the bolt that you apply to lock your door. Prayer takes the highest energy which human being is capable of generating. Jesus fought a terrible war at the garden of Gethsemane. The Bible says “His sweat were like drops of blood.” If Jesus had to pray, what about you and I ? A short prayer will reach the throne of God, provided, you are not too far from that throne. If you are far from the throne, short prayers will not help, and many believers are at different distances to the throne of God.

Prayer is so deep, wonderful and mysterious that its power is not yet even clear to many Christians. This is why prayer does not need proof. What it needs is practice. The Bible does not say “preach all the time, but commands us to pray all the time. When you pray prevailing prayers, what you get in your life is perpetual power. Your prayer life then, is an indication of your spiritual life. Where there is less prayer there is less power. When you then study the scriptures, you will discover that Moses prayed and his prayers saved a nation from death. God had wanted to destroy Israel but the prayers of Moses stopped him from doing so. It then means that the prayers of Moses held the hands of God from destroying the Israelite.

Joshua prayed, the sun stood still and his enemies fell.
Solomon prayed for wisdom and God made him the wisest king.
Elijah also prayed with great desire, and what happened? God gave rain and also sent fire after his 63 seconds prayer.
The three Hebrew men that were thrown into the flames prayed, and the son of God came into their midst.
Daniel prayed, the lions jaws and claws were closed when he was thrown into their den.
The thief prayed by the cross of Jesus saying “remember me when You get to Your kingdom.” He got immediate answer as Jesus said “verily I say unto you, this day shall thou be with Me in paradise.”
The apostles prayed, and the place where they gathered shook.

Therefore, when Christians pray the way they ought to pray, revival fire will sweep the land. If you want this country to change we have to go back to our knees, “show-business evangelism” will not change this country, because the strongman in charge of this country is yet to be brought down. The only thing that can bring him down is aggressive prayers by Christians.
So, there is power in prayer.

Covetousness is a sin, described as an inordinate desire often, for another’s possessions. The Holy Bible, in Colossians 3:5 charges people to: Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. However, occurrences in the same Holy Bible reveals in very clear terms that God allows people to covet spiritual gifts. God Himself said in Jeremiah 33:3: Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. It is for this reason that God showed to Daniel secret and deep things, even the dreams and its meaning that another man dreamt and forgot (Daniel 2:19, 22) In 1 Corinthians 12:31, Apostle Paul encouraged believers to covet spiritual gifts. Elisha, the great prophet requested for a double portion of Gods Spirit deposited in Elijah, his master. One other issue treated in this edition is COVETOUSNESS & TRANSFER OF THE MANTLE, that are also products of prayers. Supernatural actions occur by the permission of the Father through the Holy Spirit. Two notable names in Christianity in Nigeria; indeed, the whole world, are treated in the accounts below to encourage the growing generation of Christians who are called, to strive to acquire spiritual powers for their assignments through resilience and walking according to the tenets of Christianity.

The story of the notification of the transfer of the mantle from the founder of RCCG, Revd Josiah Akindayomi to Pastor Enoch Adeboye is quite interesting and has all the trappings of the power of God. Incidentally, it was at the Camp Meeting of Kenneth Hagin Snr in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1979, that late Rev. Akindayomi transferred the mantle to Pastor Adeboye, who as the interpreter to the founder of the RCCG had to accompany him to all such important meetings to interpret messages to Akindayomi was was not well-educated in English Language. At one of the sessions, God spoke and revealed that He would soon bring to pass His promises to Akindayomi concerning the RCCG. Knowing that it was a confirmation of the divine message earlier revealed to him by God, Akindayomi called his team together and announced Pastor Adeboye as his successor. As recorded by Rebecca Bible Davids; Revd Akindayomi decided to conduct an impartation and transfer of mantle on Pastor Adeboye right there in the hotel room. The prayers started and the heavens came down. The fervent passion and power with which Josiah Akindayomi prayed and laid hands on Adeboye caused an earth tremor in the area. Some members of staff and management of the hotel who felt the vibration raced to the room where an Elijah Akindayomi was transferring his mantle to an Elisha Adeboye through prayers. To the amazement of the hotel management, there was no physical machine. They were informed it was the potency of the prayer session that was high powered that caused the reverberations. This was the first point where Rev. Akindayomi prayed for Pastor Adeboye as his successor. From that time, Akindayomi continued to take Adeboye through several series of prayer sessions. Sometimes, Adeboye came out of prayer sessions, drenched in sweat after both of them had been there praying, studying and transferring mantles for several hours Pastor Adeboye revealed in one of his ministrations two years ago that the hotel where the transfer of mantle occurred was closed for safety concerns for almost 30 years, because the authorities could not understand what really happened. It was after 30 years later, in 2009, when Pastor Adeboye returned to Oklahoma, placed his hands on the walls of the Mayo Hotel and prayed fervently to God for restoration that the owners of the hotel returned to put the structure to use again. he hotel reopened for business in September, 2009.

Little wonder that Pastor Adeboye believes strongly in coveting spiritual gifts; and is, therefore, coveting the anointing of Elijah, plus the double portion of the anointing of Elisha, Paul, and Peter, in addition to a double portion of the anointing of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (while on earth) In addition, Adeboye has requested from God a double portion of the result of all these combinations and their release to him for his ecclesiastic assignment. God told Pastor Adeboye that he was looking for trouble because of the responsibilities that go along with the acquisition of such enormous spiritual powers; including people not allowing him to rest! Adeboye had the courage to reply God that it would be good trouble since God would equip him for the task if it pleased Him to confer such spiritual powers on him. According to Pastor Adeboye, such good trouble is better than being ignored or made irrelevant in the vineyard of God.

God does not call the qualified. And beginnings are not usually smooth-sailing. As revealed in a publication titled: Fulfilling Your Days Scriptural Principles of Long Life (Published by Dominion House 2007) Oyedepo explains that: On the day I was commissioned into the ministry, I kept saying Lord, I need your wisdom. I cried after it and God answered me. He says: I knew that I was not qualified for the call. I looked around and could not see what I could boast of as my qualification. The first thing I asked myself was what will I be saying to the people that will still make sense after a year or two from now? The thought of all these caused him to start sobbing. He was in tears on the day he was commissioned to the ministry. After the commissioning service, Oyedepo retired to a mountain top because he knew that he needed His help. The young minister of the gospel spent that night crying out to Him that Lord; I dont know what kind of trouble you got me into. What will I be saying till I die? I dont know anything, I have nothing. If you wont help me, I rather die. At every point, God kept consoling me and saying to me, My boy, I will be with you. And God has never been known to lie.

Then, developing himself was the next task. Oyedepo says he could boast of having travelled through (read) most of the New Testament with such zeal and zest, never having an idea that I was going to become a minister of the gospel. But I loved the Lord and I so loved the word that I could stand and release 20 verses without opening the Bible. Somebody asked me do you cram the scriptures and I said no, I eat them. I ate scriptures and the impact has not been theoretical, the impact has been spiritual and that has helped me through my life. In terms of applying the word of God in dealing with the issues of life as they arrive from time to time. Over the years, David Oyedepo has drawn inspirations from great servants of God who have demonstrated strong passion for excellence through personal contacts and reading of their publications. Surprisingly, the Holy Spirit had in 1983 directed him to approach Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, whom he had as at then never met for his commissioning into full-time ministry. Not someone to disobey God, Oyedepo sent a letter of notification to Pastor Adeboye who finally ordained him for full-time ministry on 17th September, 1983.

God has strategically positioned destiny helpers along the paths of everyone. It is possible to miss destiny connectors if care is not taken. These are mentors used by God. Bishop Oyedepo refers to some prominent priests of God as his destiny helpers: I have men that God connected me with very early. The first was T.L Osborne whom I met in 1986 through his books which changed my life. Second to that was Kenneth E. Hagin who impacted and influenced my life tremendously. I read all those books that he ever wrote to the point that in his life time, God transferred the mantle of his ministry to me. Next is Kenneth Copeland from whom I drew the insight on kingdom prosperity in 1977. Next to that is the great legend, Pastor Enoch Adeboye who is a father to me in the ministry. From 1983, I have been with him and have drawn maximally from his wisdom and strength. In 1986, I came across Archbishop Benson Idahosa. From that time till date, even in death, I have remained a part of his ministry. I have also been associated with Pastor William Kumuyi, a great man of God who has been a tremendously blessing to humanity.

Bishop Oyedepo disclosed that he started reading the publications of Kenneth and Gloria Copeland in 1977, noting however that the great servants of God did not set their feet on the altar of Winners Chapel in Ota until 30 years later. According to him, Copelands publication: 6 Steps to Excellence in Ministries and Passion for Knowledge by Gloria Copeland wetted his appetite for knowledge. Oyedepo went further to reveal that 12 great influences and personalities emerged in his Ministry to assist in positioning him for the height he has attained. According to him, when I was in dire need of the Spirit of wisdom, God specifically told me to connect Pastor E. A. Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God for special impartation. The influence of Rev. Kenneth Hagin Snr on the complete ministerial transformation of David Oyedepo could not be overemphasized. Impartation of spiritual gifts does not necessarily have to be by laying of hands, as in the case of Elijah and Elisha because it is a supernatural exercise conducted by God through the Holy Spirit. As Oyedepo was sitting in a gallery of a camp meeting while Kenneth Haggin was ministering, there was a stirring within him craving for the kind of Spirit with which Haggin was operating. A glowing face of Kenneth Haggin was what David Oyedepo saw and requested for a transfer of Kenneths Spirit. And God did it! That development marked an impartation and a complete transformation of his ministry.
