What Will You Be Remembered For?
By: Dr. D.K. Olukoya

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Acts 9:36-40
A good man leaveth an inheritance to his childrens children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. Proverbs 13:22

The best thing any man can leave behind is an example of a life well lived. A life well lived is a life lived in absolute submission to the will of God. What will you be remembered for? The Bible says that Dorcas was full of good works. David is remembered for confronting and killing Goliath. He is also remembered for being Israels greatest king, a prophet and a musician (psalmist). He is remembered for being a man after Gods heart. Solomon is remembered for building the temple and for his unusual wisdom. Nehemiah is remembered for rebuilding the broken walls of Jerusalem, despite his lowly earthly position as a servant to the king. Elijah is remembered for confronting Ahab and Jezebel, for overcoming the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel and turning the hearts of Israel back to God after years of Baal worship, apostasy and idolatry. Peter is remembered for his sermon on the day of Pentecost and the souls he won for God that day and afterwards. Paul is remembered for writing two third of the New Testament, his missionary works and for labouring exceedingly to build the church.

Beloved, when the history of your family, community, workplace, church, neighbourhood, city and nation are written, what will you be remembered for? An individuals lagacy can be good or evil. Make a decision to leave a good legacy. Ensure you are remembered for something good and worthwhile. Pharoah, the king of Egypt, who was stiff-necked, perished with his hosts in the Red Sea. Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus; Saul, the first king of Israel, failed and left bad memories. Some parents would not name their children Saul or Judas because of the bad records of those personalities. Your choices and actions today will have great influence on your tomorrow as well as your unborn generations.

Whatever you have to do, pause and think of how it will affect your today and tomorrow. Will it make you to be remembered for good or for bad? As a believer who has been washed by the blood of the Lamb, clothed in Christs righteousness and indwelt by His Spirit, you have the grace and power to achieve even more than David, Elijah, Peter and Paul did. You can inscribe your name and that of your family on the world map of global achievement. You can make your name and those of your children and great grandchildren to be in good reckoning in heaven. All you need to do is to accomplish great works for God, whilst obeying Him completely, and leave a worthwhile lagacy. You will be remembered for good.

All good men and women must take responsibility to create legacies that will take the next generation to a level we could only imagine.

The seed of greatness in you and your family, shall sprout and bear fruits. (From: Mountain Top Life Devotional of Saturday May 26, 2018

Before our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ ascended into Heaven to go sit on the right hand of His Father, He issued a Proclamation, which is described as the Great Commission. It was an order and not an advice given to His disciples. Matthew 28:18-20 records Jesus Christ as saying that: All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age. The Great Commission is a compulsory assignment for all followers of Christ to preach salvation to mankind. It is an exercise that demands thoroughness in building and multiplying disciples in all nations so that they can, in turn, soak their nations with the Good News of salvation. Those going round for Christ also have the responsibility of training other disciples from one generation to another for the purpose of spiritual multiplication.

In pursuing this charge of God, all disciples are under spiritual authorities. However, believers still need to do more than just following their leaders. Former Primate Peter Jasper Akinola has asserted that Christianity goes beyond relying solely on the words of a preacher. He contends that: What is important is for every Christian to study the Bible in order to know what God Himself is saying. The pastor may be there no preach as the shepherd under God. But the efficacy of the ministry of a pastor does not depend on his own quality as a pastor. This is because he is rendering his service in the name of Jesus Chirst, So, God is looking at Jesus Christ and not at that pastor. What counts is, what Christ has done on the cross. It is not because this pastor is a good man of that pastor is a bad man that makes his work acceptable to God. God accepts the pastors work only because of what Jesus has done on the cross. In a publication, Akinola stated that: I must warn all those who call themselves pastors to remember that we are here (Earth) only for a while and at the appointed time we will give account to God on what we did and what we failed to do. God will hold each one of us accountable for the life we led on earth, and for the manipulations of the gospel. He will hold us accountable at the end of time, so let all of us as pastors bear this in mind and pray to change and amend our ways.

Do you always wonder why an unbeliever may be wealthy and a believer might be poor? Archbishop Peter Akinola says: “It is quite possible for some people around you to succeed without Gods backing. Nevertheless, be aware that it is temporary success. It cannot be compared to what you get when you rely on God for lifting, promotion, riches, favour, fruit of the womb and other needs. God is able to give you all the good things of life. It is a matter of time. This assertion is further bolstered by another encouraging assertion by the man of God that: Gods solution may seem to take a longer process from human perception, yet, it is the best. It is worth waiting for. The wisest man in the world said in one of his proverbs that The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, and He (God) adds no trouble to it Proverbs 10: 22. What exactly is the need that you think God cannot adequately meet in your wildest imagination? Talk of wealth and riches. He can offer you durable affluence crowned with long life.

Therefore, take that quality decision today. Heaven is real and his real. It depends on where you really want to spend eternity. In the burning fire in hell or at the feet of Jesus Christ Who is returning to the world at a time nobody knows. It could be the next hour. Therefore, go now, to the Bible-believing church nearest to you, inform the pastor that you want to give your life to Jesus Christ and join the End Time Army of God. Give yourself a few months to develop spiritually and truthfully and experience His grace. Then look back at what you did in the past and compare. There must be a very clear difference for which you would be grateful to God. Then ask for more from the Lord. It is well with our souls.
