SG ELTON The subject being treated in this edition of SUNDAY TONIC pertains to the indelible contributions of a white man divinely ordered by God to move over to Nigeria from his United Kingdom base in 1937. Consider the life lived in the United Kingdom of 1937 with the social life in Ilesa, Osun State same year. Only God could most probably at that period in history move a person from luxury into poverty. I don’t know why the burden is this strong to report the activities of this fable named Samuel Granville Elton and popularly called Pa SG Elton. I, therefore, yield to the dictates of the Holy Spirit to share the story of the life and ministry of this enigma, for the purpose of people coveting spiritual gifts and embracing Jesus Christ more. The story of the contributions of Pa SG Elton is worth rehashing, because he was, indeed, used by God to chart a course for the development of Christianity, and is regarded as the father of Pentecostalism in Nigeria. And breeding the current and some deceased generation of Pentecostal leaders appeared to be Elton’s main divine assignment. As revealed to TERRIFIC HEADLINES by Elton’s only daughter, Ruth; her father, Revd SG Elton, who was called by the Lord in 1934, obeyed the divine directive to relocate to Nigeria in March 1937, under the auspices of The Apostolic Church. He was a native of Shrewbury, England but was called to be a missionary specifically to Nigeria. In July 1937, his wife and the only daughter- Ruth (who was barely three months old at that time) came to join him for the divine missionary adventure. Ruth is now over 80 years old and resides in Ilesa, Osun State as a missionary. Indeed, Elton was more than an ordinary Nigerian ecumenical personality.
