PRESIDENCY CAUTIONS AGAINST ATTEMPTS TO ‘OVERTHROW FG;   PDP’s Saraki says his party will pressure Buhari’s govt to rescue Nigeria from insecurity

The State House media desk has issued a statement alleging that some people are planning to ‘’overthrow’ the Buhari administration. The Presidency, in a statement signed by spokesman Femi Adesina on Tuesday warned that it will deal decisively with any group that does anything to undermine the democratically elected government in the country. even if some unruly feathers would be ruffled in the process. The Presidency also said that it was ready to keep the country together even if it involves ruffling unruly feathers in the process.

The Presidency also said that it was ready to keep the country together even if it involves ruffling unruly feathers in the process. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity,  , alleged that some persons have planned to hold an illegal conference where a vote of no confidence will be passed on President Muhammadu Buhari. It further said that some highly placed individuals in collaboration with some religious leaders and their foreign elements were working hard to undermine the sovereignty and corporate existence of the country.

Reacting to the alert earlier raised by the Department of State Services, DSS, under the caption  OUR RESPONSE TO DSS ALERT, BY PRESIDENCY, the Presidency said that Nigerians opted for democratic rule, adding that the only acceptable way to change a democratically elected government should be through elections.  The Department of State Services (DSS), on Sunday alerted on sinister moves by misguided elements to wreak havoc on the government, sovereignty and corporate existence of the country.

It added that: Championed by some disgruntled religious and past political leaders, the intention is to eventually throw the country into a tailspin, which would compel a forceful and undemocratic change of leadership. Further unimpeachable evidence shows that these disruptive elements are now recruiting the leadership of some ethnic groups and politicians round the country, with the intention of convening some sort of conference, where a vote of no confidence would be passed on the President, thus throwing the land into further turmoil.

The caterwauling, in recent times, by these elements, is to prepare the grounds adequately for their ignoble intentions, which are designed to cause further grief for the country. The agent provocateurs hope to achieve through artifice and sleight of hands, what they failed to do through the ballot box in the 2019 elections. Nigerians have opted for democratic rule, and the only accepted way to change a democratically elected government is through elections, which hold at prescribed times in the country. Any other way is patently illegal, and even treasonable. Of course, such would attract the necessary consequences.

PDP’ll pressure Buhari’s govt to rescue Nigeria from insecurity — Saraki

There have been series of recriminations from the two main political parties on the problem of management of insurgency in the past few months. Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, had said the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will put pressure on the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to rescue the country from insecurity.

Addressing a press conference at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja on Monday, Saraki said the opposition party will continue to proffer solutions to insecurity and other challenges confronting the country. The former senate president said pressure — through constitutional means — will yield results that the citizens yearn for.

“We, the opposition party, will continue to play our own role in letting the government be aware of lapses and continue to put pressure through constitutional means in telling them what they need to do, so we will not get tired,” he said. “When you see changes in the world, it has gone through constitutional means.

It might look like a long journey but the truth will prevail and the right thing will be done. “Pressure on the government will eventually yield results. We will continue to follow that through the constitutional means. That is why we are here at this press conference.

We will continue to demand that the right thing is done and we will play our own role. “Let me assure all the people of Nigeria that we are committed on this part. It is just a matter of months and we are hopeful that during this short period of time we will start a great journey for this great country.

“Let me assure all the people of Nigeria that we are committed on this part. It is just a matter of months and we are hopeful that during this short period of time we will start a great journey for this great country.

When we talk about security, it is not about political parties. It affects all Nigerians. That responsibility of government is to all of us as Nigerians.”
