Nigerians have been implored to pray for mercy for Nigeria during and after the general elections coming up in two weeks. The admonition was given at the February 2019 edition of the monthly Holy Ghost Service that ended in the wee hours of today at the Redemption Camp, Mowe, Ogun State. The announcement was made by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God Worldwide, Pastor E.A Adeboye while closing the service.
Pastor Adeboye, who is known for his pattern of discrete delivery of messages from the Throne of God stated emphatically that: ‘’Nigeria requires a massive dosage of divine mercy’’ He announced a special three day fasting and prayer programme to be observed by the Redeemed Christian Church of God a few days before the Presidential and National Assembly elections slated to hold on February 16, 2019.
He went further to advise all voters not to go home on days set aside for the elections until after votes were counted in their presence. He also counseled all prospective voters to go out to perform their civic responsibilities by voting for their preferences; otherwise, they would have no right to complain to God after the elections, should they refuse to participate. He stated time after time that it is necessary for all Nigerians to pray for mercy for the country during and after the elections.
A RECALL: Those who know Pastor Adeboye very well would attest to his style of ‘’saying no evil’’. It will be recalled that Adeboye had last year at the May 2018 edition of the Holy Ghost Service warned that elections might not hold in Nigeria this year, if caution was not exercised, as a result of the widespread disturbances to public peace and security breaches in several parts of Nigeria. He sounded the alarm that unless the ongoing spates of killings are stopped by the authorities, the elections may not even hold.
At that edition of Holy Ghost Service themed, Greater Than Your Enemies, Adeboye called on the congregation to join him in praying to God to free Nigeria from incessant killings and security breaches occasioned by killings of hundreds of Nigerians in security breaches. The RCCG General Overseer added that a bishop had asked him to reveal the identity of who would win the 2019 presidential election; but that he replied, instead, that ‘’unless the killings stop, the 2019 elections may not even hold because people would be too scared to go out to vote.’’
He, however, told the congregation that the comment about the threat to elections last year was his personal opinion, never to be misconstrued as a prophecy. Sighted at yesterday’s service was the Presiding Bishop of the Sword of the Spirit Ministries and spiritual son to Pastor Adeboye, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, who took one of the prayer sessions. The reasons for the bishop’s presence at the service could not be established, but it might not be unconnected with delivery of messages from God to his spiritual father on the elections and Nigeria.
It is to be noted that the prayers of the saints have held Nigeria back from precipice in the last 30 years and also after when democratic rule was restored in the country. In 2002/2003, Bishop Wale Oke embarked on a nationwide whistle stop divine prayer on state capitals to appeal to God to break the cycle of abrupt termination of civilian to civilian political transition in Nigeria. The event culminated with the gathering at the Papal Grounds, Kubwa, Abuja for the Grand Finale themed: Nigeria Turning Point Prayer programme.
Bishop Wale Oke’s church observed 100 days of fasting and prayers as divinely ordered by the Lord. This writer was deeply involved in the prayer programme that saw President Olusegun Obasanjo and several of the then federal ministers attend the programme.
The National Peace Committee headed by former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, strongly assisted by Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah is hugely challenged. They most probably will have sleepless nights. All Nigerians could save the situation if we all collectively resolve that no politician or elite will be encouraged or supported to cause crises in our great country. Our royal fathers are enjoined as mobilisers of their societies to preach peace to the people in their domains. It is not too much for state governments to sponsor these royal fathers to do the needful by providing financial assistance. But they must be apolitical for any result to be achieved. Our religious leaders who are overburdened are enjoined not to relent, because we – their unreasonable spiritual children – have, by acts of commission and omission, forced them back into their prayer closets to ”punish” them to seek the face of God harder. We pray that God may listen to us all. The media, particularly electronic and online publications too should please help our nation to avoid crises.
I once discussed my intention with an elderly mentor, to offer the National Peace Committee all my channels GRATIS two weeks ago, should they wish to embark on serious public enlightenment. I have a strong passion for Nigeria and the future of this great nation, and I am not doing this to court anybody’s favour or affection. But my fear was that too many people are out there on the political turf manufacturing horrible FALSE TALES about people with good intentions. They certainly don’t fear God, to Whom we will all account in the fullness of time. Again, TERRIFIC HEADLINES reproduces below, some comments made by former United Nations Secretary-General, late Kofi Annan in his acceptance speech as a Nobel Laureate Award Winner in Year 2001
Kofi Annan once wrote that: “Peace is never a perfect achievement.” While this thought is a sobering reminder that peace very often follows war, suffering and hatred, it also fills us with hope. ‘’Peace is not perfect just as the world is not; yet there is no bridge too broken to rebuild, no past too difficult to overcome, no conflict too complex to solve, and no act of peace too small to make a difference. ‘’In the early beginnings of the twenty-first century –- a century already violently disabused of any hopes that progress towards global peace and prosperity is inevitable — this new reality can no longer be ignored. It must be confronted. ‘’The twentieth century was perhaps the deadliest in human history, devastated by innumerable conflicts, untold suffering, and unimaginable crimes. ‘’Time after time, a group or a nation inflicted extreme violence on another, often driven by irrational hatred and suspicion, or unbounded arrogance and thirst for power and resources.”In response to these cataclysms, the leaders of the world came together at mid-century to unite the nations as never before.’’
ADEBOYE ON TRICKS OF THE DEVIL — It is apposite here to quote Pastor Adeboye in one of his general admonitions contained in the Open Heavens Devotional; of 12th August 2017; perhaps people may read it and have a change of heart on electoral violence. The truth is that highly placed people who should call politicians and elites to order are getting discouraged as if ‘’the proverbial dog is no longer listening to the hunter’s whistle’’ Pastor Adeboye’s piece captioned: ‘TRICKS OF THE DEVIL states that: ’‘We are in a world where instant riches, riotous living, exhibition of immorality and the pursuit of extreme pleasure have become attractive to people. Now, wealth and fame derived from participation in vices (such as corruption, gambling and drug-trafficking) are being celebrated, even among some so-called Christians. Some attributes that used to be highly valued in society, such as integrity, diligence, moral principle and godliness, have become things of the past and are now looked down on. The younger generation seems to have a warped idea of what success really means.
NO FREE LUNCH: Adeboye says: ”Consequently, predators are using the weapon of deception to entice vulnerable individuals into evil deeds, such as sexual gratification in exchange for favours, drug-related businesses, human trafficking, organised crime, internet fraud, and many others, promising quick money, political appointments, business opportunities, rapid job promotions etc. Is anyone promising you something in exchange for “nothing”? Ensure that you do not fall for any deceptive proposal of the devil. ‘’The rich and powerful do not give away their favours for free. ‘’They always ask for something in return, and their demand is usually much greater than their initial investment. If care is not taken, you may lose your own soul in the process. ‘’Don’t be carried away by any “delicious” offer, because it is really nothing but deceitful food laden with poison. You’ve been warned!’’ He asserted that : ‘’This tactic often takes the form of a sweet and generous offer used in sugar-coating a poisonous pill.’’
The man of God continues: ‘’Such offers can come as a gift, an appointment or a promise of greatness. ‘’The packaging of such offers is always tasteful, attractive and elegant, but inside lies destruction. The devil tried to play this trick on the Lord Jesus Christ Himself in today’s Bible reading. ‘’In many cases, no matter how much you try, you may not see anything wrong with the whole arrangement at the initial stage, but at the end of the day, you will find yourself entrapped to do the bidding of your “benefactor” against your wish. The rich and powerful of this world deploy this trick in getting what they want. ‘’They use the luxuries they can provide to entrap the less wealthy and vulnerable, who may feel obligated to do their bidding. Many victims of this scam have been disappointed, enslaved and some have even lost their lives. ‘’I enjoin Christians youths to be warned that those who are addicted to pleasure, who always have their eyes roving and seeking for a luxurious lifestyle, will easily be sucked in and entrapped by these wicked predators. The language of Satan and his agents is “All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them” (Luke 4:6). I pray that you will not be deceived or fall victim of such mean and wicked deceivers in the mighty Name of Jesus.’’
LET US PRAY MORE AND BEHAVE: I once wrote that it is not as if we elites and politicians don’t know what is right, and how to behave. Who will we rule over if we precipitate crises and cause untold damages? I remember one old broadcaster who was lovingly referred to as: ‘’abere lo’’ (that literally means that (the needle will pass before the road for the sewing thread is blocked) However, this might not hold, and the needle might not pass through the cloth, wherever God is involved, because it is possible that the needle might really not pierce the cloth, if God is annoyed. The major kernel of the above counsel is for people to conduct themselves in an orderly manner and refrain from violence and all forms of malpractices during and after the elections so that Nigeria may witness peace. It is important that all of us – Aarons and Hurs support our religious leaders in prayers so that God may indeed have mercy upon Nigeria.
IF THE MASSES DECIDE TO BE USED, THERE WILL BE NO CRISES: The National Peace Committee headed by former Head of State, Gen. Our religious leaders who are overburdened are enjoined not to relent. The media, particularly electronic and online publications too should please help our nation to avoid crises. The masses could prevent mishaps by refusing to be used to cause commotion.
Nigeria’s Dry Bones Will Live Again.
May the Good Lord look upon Nigeria and Nigerians With MERCY.
