WHAT PARENTS MUST TEACH THE YOUNG ONES & PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES – BY: ENOCH ADEBOYE & PETER AKINOLA
This piece is written and published for the purpose of counseling the young ones, and also encourage old people who may be losing hope and may have resigned to fate. They are in consonance with our ongoing advocacy campaign on FAMILY VALUES that is directed primarily at sensitizing the populace on prevention of moral, criminal and social vices; as well as attacking these vices through a coordinated multi-pronged social media campaign. It is being implemented to effect attitudinal changes across all strata of the society, in order to promote positive family values and the attainment of desirable goals that are set out in the country’s national plans. Activity focuses on the need for an urgent intervention in family values and virtues, at a time that the whole world faces multi-dimensional challenges, including security breaches, as well as criminal and social vices that are threatening peaceful coexistence and values that were handed down by progenitors.
When some societies fail, they point at governments and people in positions of authority. We know this is a wrong assumption For over one year, we at TERRIFIC HEADLINES have taken it as part of our social responsibility the task of public enlightenment on proactive measures that could be embraced to reform Nigeria through family values. We have worked conscientiously, knowing that there is an urgent and huge need to reform our society through the utilization of family units. Our fundamental assignment has been to contribute to ongoing efforts at construction a greater Nigeria, and in due course the whole of Africa. This concept of FAMILY VALUES & VALUES is very rational and its likely positive effects very obvious. The following constitute the target audience: Governments; that must provide the enabling environment; Parents; Organizations with parental responsibilities such as places of worship and educational institutions that serve to inculcate in our youths the right values, ethics, and morals in every facet of the society. We are also focusing on a broad spectrum of the global community with emphasis on Nigeria, Africa, and indeed, the global community.
ROLE MODELLING: At this critical period in world history, there is an urgent need for the segments highlighted above, particularly parents to restrategize and evolve practical means of curbing the malaise that have almost become an obsession. Apostle Paul, in one of his writings spoke about the end time as “this know also, that in the last days, perilous times shall come; for men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, truce-breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good; traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures, more than lovers of God. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof; from such turn away”16.Developments cited earlier, and similar occurrences over time, especially the recent past, indicate that the end time is indeed fast approaching. Statistics reveal that 61 per cent of websites on the internet are pornographic sites, which makes them easily available to anyone.
Regrettably, these unusual occurrences have led to increased sexual sins such as rape, homosexuality, lesbianism, masturbation, incest, fornication, adultery, prostitution and lust of the eyes. Sexual sins ruin destinies, result in broken homes; curable and incurable diseases ruin emotions and cause ultimately, eternal death and damnation. We now present the views and admonitions of two ROLE MODELS who are deeply respected all over the world. Most Rev Peter Jasper Akinola’s admonition if well digested and applied to principles could assist in toning down the influence of societal rot on our young ones.
