Spread the love

One of the most prominent Biblical stories dealing with the transfer of spiritual power is recorded in 2 Kings 2; in which Elijah is recorded to have transferred the mantle to Elisha. Elijah was a prophet and a wonder-worker of the Northern Kingdom of Israel who was active during the reign of Joram, Jehu, Jehoahaz, and Jehoash (Joash). Elisha, on his part was the son of a wealthy land-owner who became the attendant and disciple of Elijah. By sheer persistence and faithfulness, Elisha inherited a double portion of the power of God in his master; Elijah who at the point of departing the world turned to his servant and said: “Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee” (2 Kings:9). Without hesitation, the younger man answered, “I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me”

Unrelenting Elisha followed Elijah to the point of his departure for heaven and realized his ambition. God is not unrighteous to forget our labour of love. He wants to do greater things with each succeeding generation, who must, before the Lord moves, seek the Lord for His endowment of power and utilize the legacy for His work. God Almighty does not see or act as human beings do. The Unquestionable Being does whatever He likes and moves in miraculous ways. The story of the ministry of Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola is a clear testimony to the fact that God is simply great and there is none like the Creator. If spiritual gifts were to be measured by the level of acquisition of education, Babalola would be a dwarf as he only read Standard Five (one year short of the final year of the elementary school) in those days. He did not complete his elementary education. But God does not measure faithfulness and the ability to do His work by education or wealth available to someone He prefers to use. When God is involved, all requirements must supernaturally fall in line. (Zechariah 4:6)

The explosion in Christianity in Nigeria the 1930s could very well be attributed to the wave of evangelism spearheaded by this great servant of God, and a few other patriarchs who set the tone for an enormous move of God in Nigeria. Such was the intensity of the power of God in the entire ministry of Ayo Babalola that he is still remembered today as a solid man of God with an immense unction for miracles, signs and wonders. stopped schooling to learn the vocation of motor mechanic. Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya, General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry assert that: Joseph Ayo Babalola and his team of aggressive prayer warriors entered forbidden forests, silenced demons that demanded worship and paralyzed deep-rooted anti-gospel activities. Sometimes beginning from the highest places, they openly disgraced satanic agents, emptied hospitals by the healing power of the Lord Jesus Christ, rendered witchdoctors jobless and started the indigenous Holy-Ghost filled church in Nigeria. So far and we stand to be corrected, none has equalled, let alone surpass this humble brother in the field of aggressive evangelism in Nigeria

Apostle Babalola did not use his own power but that endowed by God through the Holy Spirit. His absolute surrender to God, could only be compared to the ones made by Biblical Moses and Jeremiah. Babalolas life and ministry have undoubtedly revolutionized the Christian religion in Nigeria, bringing into it powerful meaning and purpose so that it is no longer seen as a foreign religion but as the expression of Gods unique love to all nations. For instance, the Great Revival of 1930, which exploded with manifestations of the teachings and practices of the New Testament, came through Joseph Ayo Babalola; who was never exposed to any Bible College or Theological training. He was a prophet and evangelist called by the Holy Spirit and very specially anointed for miracles, signs and wonders. God was said to have moved supernaturally on the day of his birth as a sign of the fact that Babalola was an unusual creature.

The heavens reportedly testified the day Joseph Ayo Babalola was born. As revealed by Prophet Gabriel Oyelami, one of his closest followers, Apostle Babalolas mysterious birth and the great apostles mothers delivery was induced by thunder strike which occurred twice. The deafening noise during the birth of the baby was said to have driven many people away from their huts while strange lights illuminated the entire house for several days. Babalola, he said, never crawled while his mother never called him her child because of the mysterious happenings around him. Apostle Babalola grew up as a God-fearing young man. He refused food or anything offered to idols; but loved sharing freely his belongings with his friends and other acquaintances. Like the Biblical Moses, God prepared Apostle Babalola for the work He had sent him to accomplish.

Apostle Babalola was called while operating a road construction equipment in Ikeji-Arakeji, Osun State. He was a close friend of Pa. Joseph Adubiesu Fapohunda, one of the first prophets to emerge in Ijeshaland, and was the then doyen of evangelism in Ipetu-Ijesha, where Apostle Babalola first stayed after receiving the call of God. Pa Adubiesu was one of the first four men who started to learn how to read and write the alphabets with Pa Oriade at Ifofin Quarters, Ipetu-Ijesha. That evangelical group which started as a prayer and soul-winning outfit turned out to become what is today known as the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ipetu Ijesha. It is on record that in 1926, Joseph Ayo Babalola and Pa. Joseph Adubiesu Fapohunda; who was a co-founder of the first Anglican Church in Ipetu-Ijesha resided in the house of Fapohunda from where the legendary Babalola became vast and potent in prayer. That is the way God works. The signs and wonders that followed Babalolas entire ministry show that he was truly called and anointed for the work of ministry, and as a worthy representative of God on earth. Lie several other Biblical characters, he was never spared rough edges or challenges, as absence of challenges could make human beings equate themselves with God.

MEEKNESS PASTOR ENOCH ADEBOYE – Key point – You cannot keep the faith without giving the devil a fight.
One characteristic of servants of God mightily used by God is their meekness. But they were on fire for Christ, and passed the mantle to their successors. In the Open Heavens Daily Devotional of June 30, 2018; Pastor Enoch Adeboye asks: Is it possible to be meek and militant at the same time? To be meek is to do what other people want without imposing your own opinion. It is having the power to act but refusing to use it to oppress others. Being militant on the other hand means to use force or pressure to achieve your goals. How is it possible for a Christian to be meek and militant at the same time? Our Lord, as part of the Sermon on the Mount, clearly taught us that it is a blessed thing to be meek (Matthew 5:5). In his letter to the Galatians, Apostle Paul also declared that meekness is a part of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Our Lord Jesus Christ demonstrated meekness when He was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane. Hear what He said in Matthew 26:53-54, when He was about to be arrested:

Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angles? But how often shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? This same Jesus tells us that there are times when we need to be violent. In Matthew 11:12, He said: And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. Paul further expounded on this truth, telling us the reason why we are in battle and providing the guidelines for how to shield and prepare ourselves for this violent warfare. In Ephesians 6:12, He wrote: For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. The beautiful swan which vigorously paddles away under the water to stay afloat is viewed as one of the most graceful animals on water because it appears calm on the surface. Our Christian life needs to emulate the posture of the swan. In the spirit realm, we need to display all the militancy that is needed to secure us a place in heaven and push the agenda of the kingdom of our God on earth. At the same time, in the physical realm, the fruit of the Spirit meekness must be visible in our lives.

Throughout the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ, He went about doing good and healing all manner of sicknesses and diseases. His ministry was totally guided by Luke 4:18-19: The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. Brethren, that same spiritual power bestowed on Apostle Ayo Babalola, Prophet Moses Orimolade Tunolase, Primate Josiah Osintelu, Revd Josiah Akindayomi and female seer, Captain Christiana Abiodun Emmanuel (née Akinsowon) who co-founded the Cherubim and Seraphim Church is still available to anyone who wishes to walk with the Lord to covet today. But you must be ready to pay the price to get the prize; not financially but by surrendering totally to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Those great prophets and their succeeding generations engage in lots of self-denials; including sanctification, holiness, fasting, praying and doing the will of God at all times. You also need to be prepared to please God at all times. You cannot use the name of Jesus Christ without belonging to Him. Otherwise, evil spirits would ask you like it is recorded in Acts 19:15: “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” and evil spirits jumped on them and overpowered them all. The attack was so violent that they ran out of the house, naked and wounded; all because they never had the backing of Christ to use His name to fight the demon; because they never belonged to Christ.

It is important to realize that there is nobody going through this world unchallenged. The attack to be expected from the devil and its cohorts is directly proportionate to the grace a child of God carries. The more the grace; the greater the attacks and challenges. Therefore, do not delay; but go to the nearest Bible-believing church to you today to give your life to Christ and enlist in the End-Time Army of Jesus Christ. Focus on Jesus Christ. Look at the message and not the messenger; so, you will not miss your salvation. Dont listen to people condemning servants of God. I once asked such people condemning servants of God to lock themselves up in a room without food and water for seven days to pray fervently. They must surely have an experience either have an encounter with the Holy Spirit or angels of God if they are righteous; or if they are demon-possessed, encounter the devil for encounters that will ultimately lead them to hell. Let us appreciate at all times people who stand in the gap for us and our nation. God gets angry if His creations disappoint him right from the days of Adam and Eve.

Intercessors have done a lot for humanity. From Father Abraham, who begged God six times to spare Sodom and each time God accepted his prayer; to Moses who pleaded for Israelites and reminded God severally of his promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and that He dared not break them; to Amos who asked for God’s pardon for Israel (Amos 7:1-2) to Ezekiel who pleaded strongly with God not to utterly wipe out the remnant of Israel (Ezek 9:8-11; 11:13-16) on to Elijah who pleaded with God to end the disastrous three and a half years’ drought during the reign of King Ahab; their roles, and those of their successors as agents of God on earth have not changed. It is actually the prayers of the saints that have kept humanity going. Prayers have drawn Nigeria back from the brink of destruction several times. Therefore, pray harder not only for yourself, but for Nigeria and people in positions of authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. (1 Timothy: 2:2) If you pray harder, you could force the hands of God to put people you require or prefer, in positions of authority. Terrific Headlines wishes you a fruitful week ahead.
