IMPLEMENTING THE PRESIDENTIAL
MANDATE: INSTITUTIONAL BACKGROUND & NATIONAL INITIATIVES –
BUILDING A RESILIENT ECONOMY THROUGH NIGERIA MADE PRODUCTS & NON-OIL EXPORTS SECTOR:
We are part of the executors of the Presidential Mandate as patriots and have run programmes on the plans named above. If Nigeria must develop at a fast pace in line of government’s policies of visioning and long-range planning, there is an urgent need to intensify efforts at boosting the economy with utilization of raw materials sourced locally. The private sector, the engine for growth is also being actively propelled through various policy reforms to grow the non-oil sector through various incentives. We need to do a re-think very wisely, and apply home grown solutions to our economic problems. The time has come for Nigeria to look inward and resolve to consume our local products and focus on investing in small and medium enterprises to produce commodities for exports in sufficient quantities. If the greater majority of Nigerians, including our brothers and sisters in the diaspora resolve today to support the NIGERIA MADE PRODUCTS initiative, Nigeria will certainly achieve its mission of becoming a self-reliant economy before too long.

NIGERIA & THE REST OF AFRICA – TURNING NIGERIA TO THE HUB OF ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES IN AFRICA
Nigeria is widely regarded as the engine of the economy of West-Africa, a motivator of the African Union, and the catalyst of African renaissance. Such is the importance of Nigeria that it is believed that whatever happens in Nigeria has the possibility of reverberating to other nations in the African continent. Therefore, Nigeria has a wide and expansive market stretching all over West Africa with potentials to reach several other African nations. Without any doubt, foreign influences, apart from hurting our economy have also distorted and have caused stereotypes that require corrections. It has also promoted misunderstanding, and shallow knowledge of peoples and occurrences in the developing world. With the policy of African integration, Nigeria has the ability to motivate the rest of Africa to grow their economies particularly the non-oil sub-sector as a viable replacement for crude oil.

PACKAGING AND SELLING NIGERIA IN THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY FOR DIRECT INVESTMENTS AND UTILIZATION OF NIGERIA MADE PRODUCTS
Nigeria, the most populous black nation has a great role to play in leading the African continent to political and socio-economic advancement. Nigeria must necessarily continue to propel other African nations to move from the back row to the front by recording greater and impressive socio-economic developments. Nigeria occupies the sensitive and delicate position of undisputed leader on the African continent. It has never failed to act decisively in matters concerning political developments of neighbouring African states, as well as when their security is threatened. Nigeria has, of course, As a member of the Economic Community of West African States, the African Union, New Economic Partnership for African Development, NEPAD, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Commonwealth and the United-Nations, Nigeria has over the years played prominent roles in seeking world peace and the promotion of socio-economic and political interests of member nations.

Nigeria boasts of the highest pool of highly educated and trained manpower in Africa, in addition to its large population which offers the largest market for investors in Africa. Poor management of the almost limitless and vast human and material resources available over the years has been identified as the bane of Nigeria since independence. From a steadily growing economy sustained by agriculture over four decades ago, the revenue accruing to the nation grew rather steeply, giving rise to the phenomenon of over-reliance on crude oil for economic development. It has been established that Development Plans have could fail if they have been drawn without reference to the target population; thus making it impossible for the citizenry to understand policies and programmes. This compilation invites attention pointedly to the fact that Nigeria can develop phenomenally, only if all Nigerians take proper steps to reposition the country for greatness. It is coming at a period when Government is focusing intensely on the diversification of the economy and substantial gains have been recorded in the past few years, before COVID-19 struck and made countries to go back to the drawing tables to reconfigure their projections.

IMPORTANCE OF STRATEGIC INFORMATION MANAGEMENT TO GROWING THE ECONOMY
One of the most important considerations is the need to correct misconceptions about Nigeria and Nigerians by organizing conferences in six locations of the world as listed earlier in the proposal. Evidently, Nigeria is conscious of the fact that the world is constantly changing. Africa, which is the centre-piece of Nigeria’s foreign policy and one of the most endowed regions is the poorest continent. Half of the population of Africa lives below the poverty line. It is most unpleasant that Africa has emerged the most aid-dependent, most indebted and marginalized region. There is also the need to promote trade and investment by attracting foreign investments into the country which has limitless potentials for greatness. The effect of globalization poses challenges for the human race worldwide. The pressure on Nigeria occasioned by negative publicity is enormous. The situation demands effective and concrete responses to ensure a marked improvement in Nigeria’s image as being proposed in this proposal.

According to communication expert, late Prof. Alfred Opubor, “Africa has been the victim of other peoples’ information domination. ‘’Those who had the means to create powerful channels to disseminate information widely had pre-empted the definition of what was good, what was right, what was important and what was civilized.’’ These are some of the reasons why products and services made in Nigeria made be considered inferior to foreign items. Our orientation has over the decades been skewed in favour of items and services made in the developed world. The consequence is underdevelopment as evidenced in our standard of living and abandonment of our economy to indirectly contribute to the development of foreign economies by preference for foreign items. Alfred Opubor argues that one area that must be critically viewed is skewed global information flow. For long, the information that we consume about ourselves is sourced from here, refined abroad and fed into cable network channels for us to consume

Dr Akinwumi Adesina, President AfDB has consitently argued that this means that if we are able to utilize our raw materials locally and manufacture end products, there would be less stress on our economy. Although Nigeria ranks sixth in the world in agricultural output, and first in Africa, its agricultural techniques have not kept pace with the nation’s rapid population growth. As a result, Nigerian food exports have been declining for a number of years, while imports have increased. There has however, been large resurgence of manufacturing and exporting of processed food products. As a result, agriculture accounts for 28.6 percent of the national GDP and constitutes two-thirds of the nation’s employment. All these beautiful initiatives must be properly packaged and marketed globally to grow the non-oil exports sector in Nigeria through Foreign Direct Investments and utilization of local raw materials.

INFLUENCING ATTITUDINAL CHANGES & UTILIZATION OF LOCAL PRODUCTS & SERVICES
An investment enthusiast, Prof. Tunde Adeniran has argued that: ‘’Today, Africa is fast emerging as the new investment destination for most investors. Despite the focus by some on the unstable operating business environment in most African countries, investors are still being drawn to the African continent. This is due to the high returns on business investments in Africa when compared to returns on investments in the developed economies. Because the African continent has not made full use of the vast human and material resources vested in it by nature, there is a huge investment vacuum to be filled by any brave and adventurous entrepreneur. The campaign is hinged on the foregoing and the aspirations of the government and the potential markets. The purposeful implementation of this agenda will produce the desired results by way of stimulating the economy through Nigeria Made products; but greater involvement of the citizenry is still required alongside more collaboration among the three tiers of government and the private sector.

THE ALIKO DANGOTE EXAMPLE
Prof. Tunde Adeniran adds that: ‘’The case of one of the richest men in the world, Nigeria’s Aliko Dangote, is a vivid example. What Dangote has done is simple. He has dared to thread where others are scared to go. In human endeavour, high risk usually accompanies high reward after a proper cost-benefit analysis.’’ Purchasing Nigeria Made products means greater re-investment in Nigeria’s economy by local producers; thus ensuring higher income from commodity exports, and certainly, additional jobs, more wealth, and better standards of living for Nigerians generally. There is evidently a brighter tomorrow if Nigerians could embrace the policy of the federal government in the area of embracing local products and services and non-oil exports. Government is creating awareness and at the same time requesting investors and consumers to show serious commitment to participating in the nation’s economic development for the full exploitation of the potentials of the various sub-sectors of the national economy. Massive support is required for the Nigeria Made Products policy of the Federal Government that is beneficial to all Nigerians. This policy is directed at the following:
• Boost the economy
• Correct imbalance in the economy
• Source of encouragement for producers and consumers of locally made items.
• In this connection, Government is bringing together and linking producers and consumers, even through on line media platforms
• Encourage State and local governments and prospective investors to join the campaign

GENDER SENSITIVITY
In the words of Darren Walker/FORD FOUNDATION, , change happens when women have the opportunity and the means to lead. — FORD FOUNDATION
Women are challenging inequality—and winning
As Women’s History month draws to a close, we reflect on the collective power of women and their role in building a more just world. This month, we honored women who challenge the status quo, tackling injustice in their communities and beyond. Migrant women in the United States face unjust working conditions and sexual harassment, and Monica Ramirez is their backbone, tirelessly fighting for workers’ rights and building a broader movement to support them. The morass that hampered recovery in Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria didn’t hold Glenisse Pagan-Ortiz back. Instead, she mobilized—and transformed—philanthropy to rebuild her homeland.

Whether sweeping and systemic or local and immediate, change happens when women have the opportunity and the means to lead. “Black feminists are changing the world and we deserve resourcing that matches the boldness of our visions,” said Hakima Abbas, who founded the Black Feminist Fund with Tynesha McHarris and Amina Doherty. Announced this month, it is the first global fund by and for Black feminists and will support Black women, girls, trans, intersex and gender non-conforming people in Europe, Africa, Latin America and beyond. We’re proud to help launch the fund with a $15-million seed investment. But the work to elevate and celebrate women who #choosetochallenge convention continues—for everyone, including men. Building a just and equal world is a shared responsibility and a long journey but, around the world, women have us well on our way. Let’s follow and support them.
THE ’BUY NIGERIAN; USE NIGERIAN CAMPAIGN & THE NEED FOR ATTITUDINAL CHANGES
Although Nigeria is the leading producer of crude oil in Africa, government is implementing an agenda of diversification of the economy utilizing the private sector as engine for growth in a Public/Private Sector partnership arrangement. Emphasis is placed on Nigeria made products and services that are accorded prominence as the backbone of the national economy. Commitment to the agenda of influencing the conducts of Nigeria who prefer foreign goods and services even if they are inferior to Made in Nigeria goods and services must start from the top — Policy makers must be the Face of the activity by leading the way in the special campaign. It takes some time for social development activities to take roots belong they are long entrenched in the minds of the populace.
Akinwumi Adesina President, African Development Bank (AfDB) has also argued that: ‘’The future of Africa’s youth does not lie in migration to Europe, but in a prosperous Africa. “We must turn rural areas from zones of economic misery to zones of economic prosperity. This requires new agricultural innovations and transforming agriculture into a sector for creating wealth. ‘’We must make agriculture a really cool choice for young people. The future millionaires and billionaires of Africa will come initially from agriculture. ‘’A more prosperous Africa will emerge through keeping young people productive and engaged. “Even insects migrate from where it is dark to where there is light,” Adesina said. “No wonder Africa’s youth – our assets – take huge risks migrating to Europe, looking for a better life.’’

BEYOND THE SHORES OF NIGERIA:
Patronizing Nigeria Made products will serve as a source of encouragement for producers of locally made items; enable these producers plough back into the economy the profits realized, thus growing their businesses that would in turn contribute to the growth of the nation’s economy. Your decision and mine would also amount to creation of additional jobs and the correction of the imbalance in the national economy. Furthermore, utilizing locally made products would improve the standard of living thus contributing to the prosperity and stability of the society. More importantly, appreciable reduction in dependence on oil revenue for survival, would encourage production of cash crops that yield huge foreign exchange; like palm oil, cashew, cocoa, soya beans, rubber, rice, petrochemical, leather, ginger, cotton, and Shea butter. Using these items will further bring buyers, sellers and local and international investors together for the purpose of having small and medium enterprises that would eventually contribution to the growth of the national economy and marked improvements in the standard of living of the populace.
MEDICAL TOURISM & ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE:
Official reports compiled as at 2014, indicate that 30,000 Nigerians spent $1 billion annually on medical tourism. The Report released by the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority, and published by the Vanguard Newspapers states that Nigeria would make huge gains if the affluent class had the will and determination to end the capital flight and invest the money back in the local economy. According to him, 60 per cent of the said amount is spent in four major areas of healthcare, namely: cardiology, orthopedic, renal dialysis issues and cancer, saying those entrepreneurial opportunities abound in the field only for those who could seize the opportunity by redirecting the cash flow into the local health sector. The Nigerian government’s policy on industrialization, trade and investment is one that is worthy of support by all who mean well for the nation. Traditional Chinese Medicine is deeply rooted in the hearts of the Chinese people.
China has developed its alternative medicine to such an extent that the nation has produced numerous professors in that field. Apart from conserving foreign exchange that would have gone into medical tourism, China is flooding the whole world with herbal drugs made from farm products in that country. We have most of those plants that produce the herbs in Nigeria and all we need do is to demonstrate interest and patriotism, guided by government that creates the enabling environment and regulatory role. We can get there speedily if we work together. This has influenced the measures for improvements that the Muhammadu Buhari administration has put in place in the past few years to entrench economic and attitudinal changes on the part of Nigerians who are being encouraged to partner with government to build a resilient economy. Nigerians in the Diaspora, given their usefulness and high relevance, have not been left out of the equation with strong appeals and encouragement for participation in the development of Nigeria’s economy.

INCULCATING THE RIGHT VALUES THROUGH A COORDINATED STRATEGIC CAMPAIGN
Regrettably, it is now commonplace finding the younger elements in Africa dancing to the tunes of foreign musicians; without even understanding the lyrics of the songs. The sounds and contents of Nigerian musicians’ works are certainly more meaningful than ‘’rapping’’ that conveys no meaning; and is full of distortions because no communication really takes place. Young boys now wear ear-rings, hitherto an exclusive practice by the female sex. This is one feature of what information explosion has caused; creating dysfunctional situations that are increasingly becoming difficult for the world to manage. This trend has caused misrepresentations and stereotypes that every so often require corrections. It has also promoted misunderstanding, and shallow knowledge of peoples and occurrences in the developing world. It is widely believed that this development is capable of hindering efforts at developing the younger ones. It is a collective responsibility to get the younger ones back on track and prevent those who are yet lost from doing so.

SUSTAINABLE CAMPAIGN
Without any doubt, there is a huge need for attitudinal changes starting from the top. Policies and programmes of government must be woven to influence the thoughts and conducts of the growing generation that comprises the largest part of the population. This is one area where strategic information management is required. Accordingly, role models like WIMBIZ, as association of female professionals deserves accolades and encouragement for paying particular attention to mentoring and menteeship, and has provided a breeding ground for present and future female leaders. One of the useful objectives that could be copied by all other similar bodies is the mentor and mentee activity that involves sharing knowledge by members of the group, Perhaps, other organizations with related mandates that could be encouraged to study this valuable programme; that is guiding young professionals to excel. From this point of view, and the advancements recorded by women in governance (political and corporate) in the last two decades, one could safely state that it might not be too long from now when women would occupy some of the most prominent spaces on the political turf.

REASONS WHY INVESTING IN NIGERIA – AN EMERGING MARKET IS A WISE ONE
Investing in Nigeria, among others, offers the following significant advantages to potential investors:
Enormous human and material resources that are yet to be fully exploited. Utilization of raw materials for local production insulates the Nigerian economy to a large extent, against global commodity price shocks
•The expansive Nigerian Market, stretches into the West African sub-region with a capacity to reach other parts of Africa
•Creation of conducive business and industrial environment through policies and programmes that guarantee a free market economy.
•The private sector in the country is dynamic and has assumed greater responsibilities that make the sector the principal engine of economic development.
• A non-discriminatory policy with respect to local and foreign investors; with government protection and incentives.
• There is a well-developed banking and financial sector. Credit facilities are easily accessible by investors.
• Skilled labour is abundant at an economic cost. This leads to low costs of production.

POSITIVE EFFECTS OF CAMPAIGN
There is evidently a brighter tomorrow if Nigerians could embrace and support the policy of the federal government in the area of promoting local products and services and non-oil exports. For the avoidance of doubt, Nigerians at home and abroad are reminded that there is enormous hope as this policy would produce the following results:
• Boost the economy
• Correct imbalance in the economy
• Encourage Direct Foreign Investment
• Source of encouragement for producers and consumers of locally made items. In this connection, Government is bringing together and linking producers and consumers, even through on line media platforms.
•The campaign has the objective of reaching the whole world particularly the Nigerian and African Diaspora
• The economy of Nigeria will receive a huge boost.
• The standard of living will improve drastically
• Reduce dependence on oil revenue for survival.
• Encourage production of cash crops that yield huge foreign exchange as palm oil, cashew, cocoa, soya beans, rubber, rice, petrochemical, leather, ginger, cotton, and Shea butter.
• Bring buyers and sellers together
• Increased awareness
• Creation of jobs and employment opportunities
• Attract Foreign Direct Investments into Nigeria
• Increase in vocational matters
