‘’BUY NIGERIAN; USE NIGERIAN’’ CAMPAIGN –   ADIRE FABRIC (TIE & DIE) UNDER FOCUS Greater private sector involvement in Nigeria’s economic growth, as spelt out in the reform agenda of the federal government and positive response of the populace and prospective investors  apparently hold the key for the transformation of the nation’s economy through non-oil exports; an agenda that is being fiercely encouraged by the Commodities and Products Inspectorate Department of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade & Investment in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Information & Culture.  The Made in Nigeria campaign moves to Abeokuta, tOgun State upper week, as part of federal government’s initiatives to create awareness, bring producers and purchasers together, in a sensitization drive that forms part of policies directed at diversifying the economy and also mitigate external shocks on the economy, while also reducing global trade tension that may arise through overdependence on imported goods and services. The major product that is going to be promoted in Abeokuta with the collaboration of the Ogun State government are Adire textiles (Tie & Dye) in various forms that have their roots in the ancient Yoruba town. Given the urgent requirement of diversifying Nigeria’s economy that should be the concern of all Nigerians and her well-wishers,   it is important for States and local governments to go headlong into this programme supervised by the COMMODITIES & PRODUCTS INSPECTORATE DEPARTMENT of the FEDERAL MINISTRY OF INDUSTRY, TRADE & INVESTMENT.  ATTRACTIONS: To depict the richness of Yoruba arts and crafts, other producers of Adire from Osun and Oyo States will be in Abeokuta to attend the event to exhibit their products and attend as entrepreneurs and craftsmen and women. Others yet may attend as prospective investors that could be helped to scale up their businesses into the category of Small and Medium enterprises. Ogun, Oyo and Osun States are particularly significant because of the new techniques of resist dyeing developed in these ancient settlements.  For Adire makers, the event provides an opportunity to sell their products massively as Abeokuta will be hosting the annual Drum Festival that people for different parts of the world are expected to attend from 25th to 27th April, 2019.
