Health benefits Extremely rich in vitamin C. Generally, properties are similar to those of lemon. Leaves, seeds and roots are commonly used against gonorrhea. Crushed leaves rubbed against the forehead, are analgesic for headache. An infusion of the crushed leaves can be given for fever with slight jaundice. It is an ingredient of a prescription for chicken pox. Decorticated seed be used as a medicine for yellow fever and bilious fever. Fresh juice is considered cleansing and stimulant on wounds. Roasted cut lime is applied to chronic sores and gangrenous ulcer. Skin diseases and crab lice can be treated by applying an embrocation of the juice. Juice alone, or sometimes, with hot spices, is given to treat dysentery. A few drops can be given in instillation for eye trouble. The juice can be added to a remedy for snake-bite.
